Don Meinders will talking about the Elon Powers’ family.  They moved from New York to Illinois.  Elon’s two sons, Norman and George enlisted in the Civil War and Don will tell what happened to them.  Don is a gentleman from Fox Lake and one that has always been interested in history.  In 1986 he belonged to the Fox Lake Historical Museum.  In 1997 Don played a big part in the beginning of “December to Remember’ in Fox Lake.  In 2005 Don & JoAnne held an open house with FREE train rides for young and old at their residence on County AW.  Their small ridable train was called the D&M Railroad. Don will be showing pictures of Norman and George.  “Norman enlisted in Company E.29th Wisconsin Infantry, 14 August 1862, achieving the rank of Corporal.  He was shot in the hand in the battle for Vicksburg, Mississippi.  He was transferred to Van Buren hospital in Madison County, Louisiana.  His hand wound was improving, but he died for Maleria in the hospital on July 30, 1863.  Don’t miss this program and hear where Norman is buried.
