Join members of the Horicon Marsh Bird Club for one last hurrah through this beautiful area! Viewing highlights in August include multiple species of water birds such as black-necked stilts\, American bittern\, and common gallinule. Shorebird migration has begun by this time\, so we will search for plovers\, sandpipers\, dowitchers\, stilts and more! You will be walking gravel dike tops\, up to 3 miles. Wear good walking shoes and bring water. \nMeet at the East end of Old Marsh Road at the intersection of Point Road North and Point Road West. DESCRIPTION:Join the Horicon Marsh Bird Club for our upcoming meeting on September 17 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitors Center\, N7725 WI-28\, Horicon\, WI 53032. This month’s program will take us on a journey to the tropical forests and wetlands of Costa Rica\, as Jeff and Suzanne Bahls share highlights from their March 2026 adventure. They traveled with the Wisconsin Natural Resources Foundation and Holbrook Travel on the Rhythms of Nature tour.\n\nTheir itinerary included Tortuguero\, located along Costa Rica’s northern Caribbean coast; Sarapiquí\, a lush lowland region in north-central Costa Rica; La Fortuna Waterfall; and Arenal Volcano National Park. Each destination offered its own unique habitats and opportunities to experience Costa Rica’s incredible diversity of birds and wildlife.\n\nDuring the trip\, Jeff and Suzanne recorded an impressive 127 species of birds\, along with 12 sloths\, including both two-toed and three-toed sloths. They also encountered several other mammals\, including three species of bats.\n\nCome join us as Jeff and Suzanne share their photographs\, stories\, and favorite memories from this unforgettable adventure. DESCRIPTION:Starry Night on the Marsh: Harvest Moon and Starlit Skies is coming back to the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center on Friday\, September 25\, from 5-8pm. \nThis family-friendly event\, which focuses on night time wildlife and astronomy\, starts promptly at 5:00pm\, and it promises a full schedule of fun activities and hands-on experience opportunities. DNR staff at Horicon Marsh\, Friends of Horicon Marsh volunteers and multiple Dodge County libraries will provide a wide array of activities and crafts from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.  But the fun doesn’t stop there!  From 6:30-8pm\, there will also be a campfire with concessions and the 1.3 mile Storybook Trail will be illuminated by candlelight for a magical story walk. \nDon’t miss this fun and educational event! Participating libraries include are from the following communities: Beaver Dam\, Brownsville\, Juneau\, Iron Ridge\, Waupun\, Horicon and Mayville.  Admission is free.  There will be small concessions and the Blue Yummy food truck will be on site so bring the family for dinner and fun on the marsh! \nThe Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center is located at N7725 Highway 28\, Horicon\, WI.
