DESCRIPTION:Kids Program: Cranes and Wetlands \nThe International Crane Foundation’s\, Stephanie Schmidt\, will provide an interactive and engaging presentation for school-aged children where we will share how to identify the 2 species of cranes in Wisconsin and how cranes are specially adapted for wetlands through their anatomy. SUMMARY:Starry Night on the Marsh
DESCRIPTION:Starry Night on the Marsh is coming to the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center on Friday\, September 9. This family-friendly event\, which focuses on nocturnal animals and astronomy\, starts promptly at 6:00\, and it promises a full schedule of fun activities\, interesting presentations\, and hands-on experience opportunities. DNR staff at Horicon Marsh\, Friends of Horicon Marsh volunteers and seven Dodge County libraries will provide a wide array of activities and crafts from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Activities include an owl pellet dissection\, trivia games\, constellation crafts\, star-parachute games and more! The Marsh will give a presentation on nocturnal animals at 6:30\, and members of the Northern Cross Science Foundation will discuss telescopes and the night sky at 7:15. Starting at 8:00\, members of the Northern Cross Science Foundation will share telescopes for public viewing of the night sky (weather permitting). Bake sale items and snacks will be available as well. \nDon’t miss this fun and educational event! What we can do to keep wild birds in Wisconsin healthy by Nancy Businga\, Wildlife Disease Specialist \nThe presentation will provide an overview of some of the common causes of wild bird mortality in Wisconsin’s birds\, including an update on the highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak\, suggestions for protecting bird’s health and how to report sick or dead birds to the DNR. \nNancy has worked as a wildlife disease specialist for the DNR for the past 18 years\, leading wildlife mortality investigations and disease surveillance efforts.
