DESCRIPTION:Interested in birdhouses\, but don’t know where to begin? Wondering what you can do to help cavity nesting animals? Head to the Horicon Marsh Education & Visitor Center on Saturday\, March 4th from 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM to bolster your nesting knowledge. Speakers will discuss popular nest boxes\, such as bluebirds and wood ducks. Live raptors will be sure to engage participants of all ages! Come for a specific topic or stay for all three. Whatever you choose\, these presentations will cover many topics to “brood” about for this upcoming nest season! \nDoors will open at 8:30am so that early birds can peruse displays on cavity nesting birds\, talk with DNR experts on how to attract birds to your yard or purchase your own nesting box.  A schedule of speakers is as follows. \n9 AM: Live\, Cavity Nesting Raptors: Learn about nesting raptors and see some live birds up close! Presented by Renee Wahlen\, Executive Director of Marsh Haven Nature Center. \n10 AM: Bluebirds: Identify prime bluebird real estate and how to attract mating pairs\, too! Presented by Pat Ready\, Bluebird Restoration Association of Wisconsin. \n11 AM: Wood Ducks; Make your Boxes Pro“duck”tive”: Discover the best ways to make your nest boxes pro-duck-tive! Presented by Jeff Bahls\, President of the Horicon Marsh Bird Club. \nBluebird/tree swallow or wood duck boxes are available for purchase on site.  The Friends of the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center will provide kits and fully assembled boxes for sale. Donuts and coffee will also be available for a donation during the day. Are the winter blues setting in?  Wishing you were somewhere warmer?  Kids are bouncing off the walls?  Come join us for a Cabin Fever Open House at the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center where you can experience some outdoor winter adventure or stay warm and cozy inside with a cup of hot chocolate.  DNR staff and Friends of Horicon Marsh volunteers have an array of family friendly activities lined up to help drive away those winter blues.  Go on a tracking scavenger hunt on our Short Loop Trail\, dissect an owl pellet or make your own snowy owl.  Snowshoe (conditions permitting) out to the Storybook Trail\, play board games while sipping hot chocolate and eating popcorn or warm up around the campfire.  Test your creative side by entering into the “Wanna Build a Snow Animal” contest or try to build a small shelter warm enough for your imaginary hibernating animal to survive.  Fell the chill of the glaciers in the Explorium at a discounted rate as well!  So get out of the house and come join us at Horicon Marsh for a fun filled winter day! \nNo registration is required.  Please meet at the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center located at N7725 Highway 28\, Horicon\, WI.  For additional information please contact Liz Herzmann at 920-210-9054 or elizabeth.herzmann@wisconsin.gov.
